Did Louis Farrakhan Accept the Biblical Jesus On the Cross As the Promised Messiah?

The purpose of the article is to present the relevant facts regarding the question at hand with respect to the speech Louis Farrakhan gave at Union Temple Baptist Church in Washington D. C. on July 30, 2017.

There is a snippet being passed around on Facebook from a message Louis Farrakhan gave at the Union Temple Baptist Church in Washington D. C. on July 30, 2017.  This snippet captures Farrakhan saying he accepts Jesus as his redeemer. The video is below (link is here).  Various websites and at least one newspaper (Black Christian News) are also carrying this snippet.  In this video Farrakhan says he knows he is going to have to pay for the things he has been teaching.  But he never identifies those teachings for which he is going to pay as far as I can tell.

The question is does he accept the biblical Jesus?  When he refers to “my Jesus” is he talking about the biblical Jesus or is he talking about the Jesus of the Koran?  For the Koran does not recognize Jesus death on the Cross as payment for the sins of humankind!

The entire July 30, 2017 message at Union Temple Baptist Church may be found in the video below (link is here).

Information on Farrakhan view of Jesus is provided in the video below (link is here) in a speech entitled “Christianity is a Made-Up White Man Religion” which was delivered on August 20. 2017 which is after the above speech at Union Temple Baptist Church given on July 30, 2017. Comparing the two shows when he say “my Jesus” he is talking about either Elijah Muhammad or Elijah Muhammad’s predecessor (Wallace D. Fard) or both. For me, the applicable part of the video is at 00:47:00 to 1:11:00.

There are other videos on youtube.com that provide insight into this subject as well.  On C-Span on November 16, 2017 Farrakhan gave an NOI News Conference in which he spoke of Elijah Muhammad as being the one Christians refer to as Jesus Christ. The entire C-Span video may be found here.  A 12 minute clip starting at 01:47:34 of  the full video is given below:.

Also, the Final Call in an article entitled “False flags and Black America’s salvation” reports the following concerning a speech Farrakhan gave on Oct 15, 2017 in Newark New Jersey on the 22 anniversary of the Million Man March:

—Excerpt from the above Final Call article begins:

Minister Farrakhan cleared up some confusion about his “conversion” to Christianity. After a recent lecture at Union Temple Baptist Church in Washington, White Christian media purposely misused his words to suggest he had “just found Jesus.”

“At the end of my talk I said: ‘I know that my redeemer liveth. And I said, because he lives, I too shall live, and will stand with him at the latter day,” said Min. Farrakhan.

Since 1981 the core of the teaching of Minister Farrakhan has been his and our “Jesus—the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad” is alive and is in control of the forces of nature, and that Mr. Muhammad, and Master Fard Muhammad—Allah in Person—are both backing and protecting the Minister’s every step.

While the Muslim leader recognizes that many find his message of separation “unbelievable”—such as Black intellectual Dr. Cornel West, who told the Minister separation is “a pipe dream”—he remains steadfast to separation as God’s solution to America’s race problem.

The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad is the “real Jesus,” Minister Farrakhan declared, and an ovation erupted in the auditorium, when Mr. Muhammad’s picture was then displayed on a screen for the audience to see. “Before too long, you too will bear witness,” the Minister said.

—Excerpt from the above Final Call article ends:

From the above Farrakhan makes it clear that his Jesus is the one they call the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. His Jesus is not the biblical Jesus.

I was told that Minister Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam considers the biblical Jesus as the “historical Jesus”; but, as I understand it, they consider the Elijah Muhammad and perhaps Wallace D. Fard (predecessor to Elijah Muhammad) to be the prophetic Jesus’s.  Hence, they establish two Jesus, one historical and one prophetic.  However, Christians consider there is only one Jesus, the same one is historical and prophetic.  In fact, the biblical New Testament Jesus fulfilled all of the prophecies concerning the Messiah (Saviour of the Soul from sin) or will do so at the end time.

Minister Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam seem to make the same mistake that the Jewish leaders of the New Testament days made and even unto this day:  They were/are looking for the Messiah to come to set up an earthly kingdom and become an earthly king and reestablish man back into the Garden of Eden from which he was kicked out and all of the toils and snares that come with being kicked out.  But Jesus came to pay the price for human sin while here in the flesh on earth.  He will not restore man (at least fully so) back into the Garden of Eden in Heaven until he returns the second time.  In the meantime, God sends messengers to aid in humans dealing with sin and the effects of sin here on earth.  So then any messenger from God before and after Jesus is not the historical nor prophetic Jesus but rightly characterized as a messenger of God as was Isaiah, Moses, etc. before Jesus and the apostles/evangelists, etc. after Jesus.

One should be aware of Paul’s warning in 2 Cor 11:1-4 to beware of those who come preaching another Jesus.
