Boston Massachusetts Free Speech Rally of August 19, 2017

A “Free Speech Rally” took place in Boston, MA on August 19, 2017.  Some  say it was organized by persons associated with White Supremacist. Organizers say it was not about White Supremacy or Confederate Monuments.  Indeed, one of the planned attendees was US Senate candidate Shiva Ayyadurai.  He is a person of color; therefore it is doubtful he is a white supremacist or even believes in it.

The Free Speech Rally  was held although the attendees were smaller than expected probably because of the Charlottesville incident and the consequent expected increase in counterprotesters.  Indeed, a large crowd  of counterprotesters did show up.  The rally was mostly peaceful as it was scaled back and organizers and participants left early in order to avoid interference by the counterprotesters.
Mayor and Counterprotesters Disrespected the US Constitution

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh said the following: “There have been questions about why we granted a permit for the rally,” Walsh said on Friday. “The courts have made it abundantly clear. They have the right to gather, no matter how repugnant their views are. But they don’t have the right to create unsafe conditions. They have the right to free speech. In return, they have to respect our city.”

The Mayor of Boston knew that the organizers had a constitution right to rally.  Yet, it is clear that the Mayor and the counterprotesters responded in a way that did not respect the right to free speech. In doing so they did not respect the Constitution of the United States.
